Natural Flavors and Colombian Rhythms

A sought-after destination lately, Colombia generously reveals itself to the curious travelers, eager for new explorations. The country is known for its significant natural resources, modern cities, and rich culture. Its landscapes are as charming as diverse: from the snow-capped peaks of the Andes to the Amazon majestic green jungle, from the endless Eastern Plains to the hills of Zona Cafetera (coffee region), from La Guajira desert to the golden sands of the Caribbean beaches. Let’s add the truly remarkable wildlife, the country’s rich colonial past, and the charming smile of its people.

Colombia is, unquestionably, one of the most beautiful countries in South America. We invite you to discover it through a personalized and carefully planned circuit. Besides the unmissable places included in our itinerary, we also recommend a scenic hot air balloon ride over Cocora Valley, a bamboo rafting trip, a helicopter tour of the Lost City (otherwise reachable only after a four-day hike), as well as an unforgettable stay in the heart of Sierra Nevada, at Casa Galavanta, 1500 meters above sea level, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and closer to the clouds.

Colombia is famous (or infamous) for many things, but the only risk you’ll have to take is to want to stay longer in this part of the world, barely known until recently.  Although many travelers associate Columbia with cartels and a specific trade, this country will break down any preconceptions you might have and will exceed many expectations. Probably one of the most diverse destinations, Colombia has it all: modern cities, jungles and lush rainforests, irresistible food.

Our mission is to offer you a fresh perspective on Colombia, in a personalized holiday, Oombla Travel style.

Must see

The tours we create are tailor made. We believe that the regions below should not be missed, but we leave it to you to choose how much time you want to spend in each place and what experiences will have during this unforgettable trip.

Coffee Triangle

Famous for producing one of the best coffees in the world, Colombia is home to a green valley with gorgeous haciendas and fincas - Cocora Valley - an amazing setting, part of UNESCO World Heritage, under the name of The Coffee Cultural Landscape of Columbia. Cocora is also known for giving life to the world’s tallest palm tree, the wax palm, which grows to 60 m tall and is considered Colombia’s national tree.

With the snow-capped peaks of the Andes in the background and coffee plantations as far as the eye can see, Cocora Valley is a mandatory stop for all those travelling to Colombia. It’s the ideal place to learn everything about coffee and its production, this black gold being the main economic resource in the region.

Bogota

The capital of Colombia lies at about 2700 m above sea level, at the foot of the Andes Cordillera and has a population of around seven million inhabitants. A city of contrasts, Bogota will charm you with the picturesque and very colorful atmosphere of its colonial neighborhood, La Candelaria, or with the authentic and vibrant life in Paloquemao Market.

But Bogota also attracts culture enthusiasts. The Museum of Gold is one of the most visited touristic highlights in the country. It hosts the largest collection of gold artifacts in the world, as well as all kinds of exhibits dating back to pre-Hispanic Colombia.

Since the 2000s, street art has become an artistic movement and today, Bogota is one of the most street-art-friendly cities on earth with walls as high as seven stories being used as canvases. While strolling down the city streets, have a look at the creations of this new wave of young artists, willing to illustrate a new face of their city.

Sierra Nevada

Located in the northeastern part of Colombia, Sierra Nevada is the world’s tallest coastal mountain range. This multi-peak volcanic massif rises from the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea up to 5777 meters high, giving birth to landscapes of rare beauty.

A real heaven on earth, Sierra Nevada surprises with an incredible variety of ecosystems: snow-capped peaks, mountain pastures, deserts and alpine tundra, evergreen rainforests, wetlands and mangroves along the coast.

The Sierra is home to the Teyuna Archeological Park (The Lost City), assumed to be the cradle of the Tayrona Indians, the most important indigenous civilization in the country.

Cartagena

A vibrant city and a sensory feast, Cartagena is the undisputed queen of the Caribbean coast and is not to be missed when travelling to Colombia. Bordering the Caribbean Sea in the north, Cartagena de Indias was a key port for trade between Spain and its overseas empire, the port through which the wealth of the Andes was exported to Europe. It was protected against many pirate attacks thanks to an ingenious system of fortifications, many of these fortresses being still intact today.

The city is nowadays a real mélange of cultures and traditions: Spanish colonists, African, English, French and, more recently, Europeans and Americans settlers, all influenced Cartagena and made it become a cosmopolitan city, a unique mix of old and new.
